Why is my car charging slowly?

Why is my car charging more slowly than expected?
Slow AC charging is usually normal. In most cases, the cause is related to the car or the charging cable, not a fault with the charging station.

Can my car be the reason for the slow charging?
Yes. Most electric vehicles have a maximum AC charging capacity of around 11 kW, while some support up to 22 kW. Certain vehicles only charge on a single phase and therefore receive lower power. The car may also reduce charging speed automatically, for example when the battery reaches around 80%, or if car settings limit the charging effect.

Can the charging cable affect the speed?
Yes. Some cables support higher capacity, while others are limited to single-phase charging or lower amperage. A worn or faulty cable may also cause slow charging. Trying a different cable or charging point can help determine if the cable is the issue.

Can the charging site affect the charging speed?
Yes. In housing associations and larger installations, load balancing is often used. When many vehicles charge at the same time, the available power is distributed between users. This can temporarily reduce charging speed and is normal behavior.

When should I contact support?
If the charging speed stays unusually low over time – for example only 1–3 kW – and you have checked car settings and tried another cable, you can contact support. We will help determine whether the issue is related to the car, the cable, or the charger.
